Volitan Lionfish

The volitan lionfish (Pterois volitans) is a stunning reef predator. The large venomous spines keep them safe from larger predators and their stripes help camouflage themselves while hunting prey. This species has become invasive in the gulf coast and the southeastern coast of the United States. Though a spectacular fish for a predatory fish-only tank, they will eat small fish and shrimp.
