Yellow Striped Poison Frog

(Dendrobates truncatus)

The Yellow Striped Poison Frog (Dendrobates truncatus) is a beautiful and less common member of the iconic frog genus. This species is found amongst the leaf litter of lowland rainforest in Colombia, often around streams. As with many poison frog species, they lay their eggs in the leaf litter and males will transport the newly emerged tadpoles on their backs through the forest in search of temporary pools where the tadpoles will develop. Like many Colombian poison frogs, Dendrobates truncatus has been under heavy pressure by illegal collectors who wish to smuggle the frogs out of Colombia for sale on the international market. The D. truncatus we produce come from stock that was captive bred and legally exported from Colombia by the organization Tesoros De Colombia. This new organization is dedicated to the sustainable captive breeding and conservation of Colombia’s imperiled poison frogs. If you would like to learn more about Tesoros or to make a donation to their important conservation efforts please visit their website: http://www.tesorosdecolombia.com/Visit Fauna to see these little guys and build your vivarium today!
